Survey and Interview Responses

How long have you lived in Ada County?

We immigrated to Boise/Ada County from Bend, Oregon in 2017.

How long have you been a Republican? Any prior party affiliation?

I’ve been a registered Republican since 1980. Back in my younger days, I was a registered Democrat in California. I was against the Vietnam War and I voted for McGovern.

Have you been involved with any political organizations? (IACI, Idaho Majority Club, IFF, etc.)

I have been dedicated to the Idaho and Ada County Republican Party.

Have you supported candidates from another party?

Democrat in California and supported McGovern in 1972.

Why are you running for this office?

I was honored to be asked to run in District 19 by the Chairwoman of the District. Her name is Lynn Bradescu and she is a force in the Ada County Republican party. It is time to put Republicans on the ballot as a conservative, liberty minded choice for change.

Have you held elected office before?

I have been Precinct Committeeman for 1919 since 2022.

What makes you qualified for this role?

As precinct committeeman for 1919, I have a passion for serving voters in my precinct. I enjoy and appreciate having a voice in matters that affect the Ada County Republican Central Committee and Idaho Republican Party. I bring conservative, liberty minded principles and an independent and pragmatic approach to problem solving, Serving in the Idaho Legislature would be an honor.

If elected, what 2-3 actions do you intend to pursue in your first year?

Reducing or eliminating Property Taxes. Reducing the income tax rate.

Reducing the size and scope of the State Government.

Reducing the cost of development thus reducing the cost of building homes.

How have you served your community (boards, nonprofits, etc.)?

I served as a Commissioner for the City of Bend Arts, Beautification and Culture Commission.
I served on the Vacation Rental Task Force in Bend, OR.
I served as President of the Edgewood Park Estates HOA in Corvallis, OR.
I served on The Corvallis Jaycees Fall Festival Food Bar 88, I was Newsletter Editor for 88-89,
4th of July Fireworks Display Chairman 89-90

Do you consider yourself fiscally conservative?

Absolutely I want Idaho to keep taxes as low as possible, control government spending and not spend taxpayer money on wasteful programs that don’t deliver on the desired results.

Do you consider yourself socially conservative?

Yes. No DEI, No special rights for alphabet people. No trans in women’s sports, no sharing bathrooms with the opposite sex, etc.

Give us your one-minute elevator speech for the campaign.

I’m running to give voters in District 19 a real choice and stronger representation. I believe many people feel they haven’t been fully represented, and I want to change that. My focus is on lower taxes, smaller government, and protecting individual freedom and liberty. I want to bring a practical, common-sense approach to the legislature that reflects the values of the people I represent.

What are your top three priorities, and what would you act on first?

My top priorities are reducing taxes—especially property taxes—and limiting government growth. I’m particularly concerned about seniors and those on fixed incomes who are struggling to stay in homes they already own. I also want to ensure we have a balanced budget and eliminate wasteful spending so taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and efficiently.

The party calls for reducing non-core state spending. Which programs would you cut or sunset, and what principles guide your budget decisions?

I believe government should focus on core responsibilities like public safety, infrastructure, and essential services. Anything non-essential or non-constitutional should be carefully reviewed and potentially cut. We need to identify waste, eliminate unnecessary programs, and stop spending on initiatives that don’t directly benefit Idaho taxpayers.

I don’t believe the state should balance its budget by shifting burdens onto local governments. Instead, we should focus on eliminating wasteful and non-essential spending at the state level. Moving money around isn’t real reform—we need to make actual reductions and ensure the budget is honest and sustainable.

Do you support education dollars following students to the school their parents choose, including private schools? Why or why not?

I support school choice and believe funding should follow the student. Parents should have the freedom to choose the best education for their children—whether that’s public school, private school, or homeschooling. Families should not be forced to fund systems that don’t align with their values or meet their children’s needs.

Housing costs and property taxes are major concerns. What specific state actions would you support, and what tradeoffs are you willing—or not willing—to make?

Housing affordability starts with reducing regulatory burdens that drive up building costs. We should make it easier for developers to build attainable housing, including smaller or entry-level homes. On property taxes, I want relief for homeowners, especially those on fixed incomes, so they aren’t taxed out of their homes.

What is your position on holding employers accountable for knowingly hiring undocumented workers in Idaho?

We should hold employers accountable. Federal law already bans knowingly hiring undocumented workers. We have an E-Verify system that will confirm if the worker is in the country legally. If not here legally there are fines and other penalties that can be levied against the employers. Realistically, E-verify has flaws but it’s better than nothing. It’s a challenge for Dairy Farmers and Ag in general where nearly 90% of workers are foreign born and many are undocumented.

Medicaid costs are rising, and access remains a concern. What long-term reforms would you support to control costs, improve access, and protect taxpayers?

Medicaid spending reached about $932 billion in 2024 nationwide. Idaho spent approx. $4 billion. Idaho Medicaid spending has increased but general fund growth for Medicaid has been somewhat controlled. Overall program costs continue to rise due to healthcare inflation, aging population needing long term care among other rising costs. The largest share of spending is long term care and disabilities. A transition to managed care is being considered for better cost predictability and efficiency. Investigating and finding waste and fraud are should be considered to drive costs down.

What is your stance on the legalization of marijuana?

I’m leaning toward considering legalizing Medical Marijauna. Not recreational. Medical Marijauna cuts close to home. A family member with Fibromyalgia was prescribed Medical Marijauna card in Oregon. It helped with chronic pain and was safer and cheaper than opioids. It’s also been effective in reducing nausea from chemotherapy. Idahoans deserve to vote on whether suffering veterans, cancer patients and people in chronic pain should be able to access a medicine that 40 other states allow.

Would you oppose multi-subject bills—even if you support part of them? Why or why not?

In general, I oppose multi-subject bills. Multi-subject bills only make sense unless I can support all of them. Otherwise you are playing a game of give and take. A bill should stand on its own merits.
