Mac Raslan

Mac Raslan

I am a dedicated America First conservative and Republican candidate for Idaho State Senate in District 14, covering Gem County and parts of Eagle and Boise. I am a passionate defender of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, prioritizing loyalty to the people over party insiders or special interests. I am committed to limited government, constitutional principles, and fighting government overreach. I stand firmly against swamp politics and for We the People. Based in Idaho, I actively engage in local issues and advocate for integrity, Second Amendment rights, and true representation in government.

Idaho GOP Platform Responses

✓+  Strongly Agree   Somewhat Agree O  Somewhat Disagree X  Strongly Disagree

TopicCandidate’s Explanation
✓+Responsibility in GovernmentWe should have fiscal responsibility. Anything other than that is waste fraud or abuse. We lack transparency in these voting machines, we insert our ballot but there’s no confirmation it read it correctly.
✓+Citizen InvolvementWe definitely need more involvement but at the same time I believe the GOP has failed the people far too many times. Example: my opponent constantly votes against the platform yet he remains under the GOP platform.
✓+EducationI completely agree except for the Judeo portion. I believe that much of what we’re seeing today with the filth in our schools stems from zionist influence. Not to say Hitler was right or justified but his complaints then are our complaints today. History doesn’t repeat but it definitely rhymes.
✓+AgricultureIf we are going to survive, it won’t be because we sprayed chemicals in the air, it’ll be because we built more dams and let farmers do what they do best.
✓+WaterWater is life
✓+Natural Resources / EnvironmentNeither the state or federal government have been good stewards of land. Much of our lands are not accesible via vehicles and much of our trails have been closed off due to state sales from outside entities. More access will equal better management due to access. The people camping and having campfires can help with the cleanup.
✓+EnergyWe should be self reliant
✓+Idaho National LabIt’s been around for a very long time and although hydro is fantastic I believe nuclear is the next best option currently.
✓+Private Property RightsWhen we need to ask the government for permission to do something on our property, we have a problem.
State / Federal LandsBoth have proven to be corrupt in land management.
✓+WildlifeGovernment should not intervene in wildlife by inserting predators.
✓+EconomyMore funding does not equate to better education. Universities should not receive any taxpayer dollars.
✓+Health and WelfareN/A
✓+American FamilyGovernment should not incentivise divorce for couples with children.
✓+Older AmericansN/A
✓+Law & Order w/ JusticeN/A
✓+Securing the BorderN/A
✓+Election of Idaho JudgesJudges have overstepped their bounds in many cases along with their poor interpretation of our rights. Covid was a perfect example.
✓+Religious LibertyIt’s what this nation was founded on.

Survey and Interview Responses

How long have you lived in Ada County?

I was born in Canada, moved to Campbell, California when I was 8, moved to Emmett in April 2020. Republicans don’t have a voice in California – H1B’s, illegal immigration, and corrupt politicians ruined a once beautiful state.

How long have you been a Republican? Any prior party affiliation?

I was registered Republican then libertarian and have been registered Republican for at least 5 years.

Have you been involved with any political organizations? (IACI, Idaho Majority Club, IFF, etc.)

I’ve donated to IFF, with my deletion of Facebook I had a hard time connecting with ConservativesOf. I did return to Facebook for my county commissioner run and was a part of Conservatives Of then but deleted my Facebook account after I lost the primary.

Have you supported candidates from another party?

I always vote for Kirsten Faith Richardson and Pro-Life but have not financially donated to them.

Why are you running for this office?

To remove a republican in name only candidate. As far as I know he has never filled out his integrity in affiliation form. He also also stated to me he has to represent everyone when asked about his socialist style of voting.

Have you held elected office before?

I have not.

What makes you qualified for this role?

My integrity and morals, which seem to be lacking in many of our legislators. My trust in what our founders created for us and my desire to limit government back to its limited powers.

If elected, what 2-3 actions do you intend to pursue in your first year?

Limit government spending by cutting items that were never intended to be part of the proper role of government. It has far too much power over the people. Property tax elimination for primary residence and apartment complexes. First Amendment rights on campuses and online.

How have you served your community (boards, nonprofits, etc.)?

I have not served on boards or commissions. I am a PC alternate for Sweet.

Do you consider yourself fiscally conservative?

Very, the more money government is allowed to have the more fraud will occur. USAID is a prime example.

Do you consider yourself socially conservative?

Very much so. What we’re doing to children in schools is intolerable. The things being pushed on children and adults needs to stop along with the foreign influence.

Give us your one-minute elevator speech for the campaign.

I’m Mac Raslan, running for District 14 Senate to replace C. Scott Grow. I’m a conservative Republican, and if our values align, you can expect me to vote that way consistently. I believe too many current senators are not voting in line with the Republican platform, and I want to bring stronger alignment and accountability to conservative principles in the legislature.

What are your top three priorities, and what would you act on first?

My top priorities are lowering property taxes and reforming education by keeping control local and limiting federal involvement. I believe the federal government has negatively impacted education. I strongly support the Second Amendment and the First Amendment, especially regarding free speech. I’m concerned about censorship on social media, particularly during COVID, where I believe important truths were suppressed.

The party calls for reducing non-core state spending. Which programs would you cut or sunset, and what principles guide your budget decisions?

I support cutting programs like the Launch program, as I believe businesses should train their own workforce. I would also eliminate agencies like the Hispanic Commission and end Medicaid expansion. In general, I think government has grown too large, and I would prioritize reducing or sunsetting programs that I see as unnecessary or inefficient.

Do you support education dollars following students to the school their parents choose, including private schools? Why or why not?

I fully support school choice and believe education dollars should follow the student, including to private schools. Parents should decide where their children are educated. However, because taxpayer dollars are involved, I support accountability measures like testing. If a school chooses not to participate in accountability standards, then it should not receive public funding.

Housing costs and property taxes are major concerns. What specific state actions would you support, and what tradeoffs are you willing—or not willing—to make?

I believe property taxes on primary residences should be eliminated. Homeowners, especially seniors, are being taxed out of their homes despite already paying their share. Instead, I support a one-time sales tax on home purchases. I oppose ongoing taxation based on rising home values, which I see as taxing unrealized gains. I’m not willing to compromise on eliminating primary residence property taxes, though business property taxes should remain.

What is your position on holding employers accountable for knowingly hiring undocumented workers in Idaho?

I believe employers who knowingly hire illegal workers should face penalties, including fines. Businesses should be held accountable for following the law and not contributing to illegal employment practices.

Medicaid costs are rising, and access remains a concern. What long-term reforms would you support to control costs, improve access, and protect taxpayers?

I would eliminate Medicaid expansion, as I believe it is prone to fraud and contributes to unsustainable government spending. From what I understand, healthcare access is generally available, though wait times can be an issue. My focus would be on reducing costs and limiting government overreach in healthcare.

What is your stance on the legalization of marijuana?

I oppose marijuana legalization because it sends the wrong message and can blur safety boundaries, as seen in states like California, where some assume risky behavior like using it while driving is acceptable. However, I do not support jailing individuals for responsible, controlled use, especially when laws conflict across state lines. Law enforcement often finds marijuana less dangerous than alcohol, which is more frequently linked to violence. While some successful individuals use it, I still will not support legalization.

Would you oppose multi-subject bills—even if you support part of them? Why or why not?

I strongly support single-subject legislation. Bills should address one issue at a time so legislators and the public can clearly understand what is being voted on. I oppose large, multi-subject bills because they combine unrelated issues and reduce transparency and accountability in the legislative process.”
