Survey and Interview Responses
Why are you running for this office?
I am the current trustee and want to keep my seat.
What are your qualifications?
I am the current trustee, so I understand how the school board operates.
If elected, what are your goals?
To continue to bridge the gap between the school district and the parents. The parents are our community and their voice matters. I am passionate about our students and believe they deserve an excellent education. Our secondary level has some areas that can be improved upon and I will strive to improve them.
What experience do you have serving on boards, commissions, non-profits, etc. where you have been of service to others?
I am the current trustee, so my experience has come from serving these past four years.
Do you consider yourself fiscally conservative?
Yes. I believe that we should steward tax payer money wisely a a fiscally.
Do you consider yourself socially conservative?
Yes. I believe in preserving social structures, values, and integrity.
What have you accomplished on the Board so far?
In 2021, a number of the parents approached the board voicing their concerns on what was going on within the school and with their students. I got involved at that time by going through all of the school curriculum. I attended all of the school board meetings, standing up for the different perspectives being presented. I did a lot of behind closed doors to promote the students, while not catering to any one person or group of people. I learned how to be very strategic in dealing with very difficult issues.
Why would you like to keep your current seat?
I believe there is more work to be done and we still need to have parental involvement and voice. I represent the voice of the community members within the district. By remaining on the board, the community will have a voice committed to representing them. I bring a balanced view and the experience of one term.
How would you like to use your experience thus far, going forward into your next term, if reelected?
My current council experience gives me the historical context needed to understand the big picture and have awareness of the important issues before the council where decisions are needed.
What are the primary challenges and priorities for this office?
I don’t consider the school board to be a political office. I believe I am elected by the people for the purpose of the people, to make sure to benefit all of our students.
Why did you decide to run for school trustee, and what personal experiences have shaped your views on education?
When I first decided to run, it was because education was becoming less about education and more about promoting ideology. The purpose of the school board is to represent the community and allow parents to be involved for the benefit of their children. My thoughts are always, what can we do to make things better? Let’s make the Kuna School District the best public school system in the area.
What do you believe are the biggest challenges our schools face, and how would you address them?
We live in a beautiful state that believes in education, not ideology. I am so grateful that our board follows the laws as a standard, allowing us to focus on what should be the focus – children’s education. My priority is maintaining my focus on identifying classroom strategies to help ensure children become successful adults.
What is your stance on promoting diversity and inclusion within the curriculum and school activities?
I believe everyone should be reated equally. We should create an environment in which everyone is welcome and no one gets left behind.
How do you plan to work with local, state, and federal officials to improve our education system?
I plan to continue to have conversations with these entities on how to improve education, making sure we’re properly funded, and that we are empowered as a board to make relevant decisions.
What measures do you think are necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff?
We currently have a lot of safety measures in place. I’d like to explore additional protocols and systems to make them even better in light of current events. Each school has locks and a security system, with people having to be buzzed in, ensuring no one can just walk into the buildings. I’d like to continue to prioritize holding educational assemblies on subjects like vaping, mental health, and other health issues, educating students about these critical issues in their prime developmental years.
